I am no stranger to the Necrosexual, I had the pleasure of interviewing him last year when he dropped GRIM 1 to the unknowing public. Being the modern day equivalent of the crypt creeper, and the hideous glue, that binds rock n’ roll and black metal – I was more then happy to see him return for another offering in the form of ‘The Gory Hole in F#“.
Though short in length, this EP is more then just another set of twisted songs. No, I’d see it as a overall defiance – that the Necrosexual is more then just a set of genre-crossing songs. So, when he told me he aimed to be ‘the antithesis to all things poser,’ he wasn’t kidding at all.
One clear difference I really can notice between this EP and GRIM 1 is the punkish elements that pop up here and there. It’s only really a influence though, carrying a somewhat similar sound to bands like Celtic Frost – at least with their earlier albums. ‘The Lair Where The Light Enters‘ sounds like it could be a direct continuation of Morbid Tales. It’s glorious, and I loved every moment of it. Definitely points to Necrosexual for keeping that sound alive.
While The Gory Hole Overture in F# is a flat out great EP, it still remains that the EP is only that. I\’m anxious to see where this all leads – or if the Necrosexual will be releasing a full length anytime soon. Either way, whatever gruesome spark he and his crew have ignited – they are on the right track and definitely kicking up some dirt with a release like this!
